I'm not set on the actual design yet (there are many styles), but I just wanted to give you an idea of the type of paper. It comes white, and it is meant to be painted. This paper hides a multitude of imperfections. Here is a refresher of the state of the kitchen the way it was when I bought the house:
(All the accessories in this photo belonged to the seller). It is hard to tell, but the wallpaper is red, blue and yellow plaid. Yikes! I'm painting the cabinets white. The yellow may not look that bad in the photo, but they painted everything in this room yellow- the doors, every bit of trim, EVERYTHING. I like yellow but it is way too much yellow. So, since I'm going to have white cabinets, what color should I paint the textured wallpaper? This room will be right next to my pale olive green room. Help!**Keep in mind that this 70 year old floor will be changing, as well!
I love blue so I would do a pale aqua color :D But you could also do orange or purple

ReplyDeleteI have a really light aqua against my white cabinets (actually its just like the color of your backround) and love it. Plus it would go with olive green =)

ReplyDeleteI was also going to suggest a light blue. My living room is avocado green and I am about to paint my kitchen cabinets blue. (I just painted them brown and it is just too dark)

ReplyDeletegrey is really in right now. I think whatever you do, do a little highlighting so that the texture shows up and doesn't look flat.

Does that wallpaper come in woodpanel design? That would be good painted white or grey.

ReplyDeleteI think a pale turquoise (almost like a vintage or tiffany blue) would look fantastic in your kitchen. I could be a little bias though because that color scheme of my kitchen and I am a little obsessed.

I think next to the olive green i think a taupe-y color would be nice, but maybe I am being a bit boring?? It would look nice with the white and match any of your kitchen accessories...
ReplyDeleteI have used that wall paper before and I tell you it can be a real life saver! It paints up very nicely. Good luck with the kitchen I am sure it will look fabulous when you are finished!
I had my kitchen a pale blue one time with white cabinets and it looked amazing. That would work with the pale olive.

The aqua sounds lovely! That wallpaper is kinda like what we had in our house, we had some lovely lace curtains to match... although they really weren't so lovely. I am excited to see how it turns out!

ReplyDeleteThanks, anonymous! I don't think removing outdated plaid wallpaper and fixing a 70 year old cracked and melted linoleum floor is ruining it! I love my kitchen now that it's updated. :) (and still yellow!)
